I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year! I also hope you have our Jan. 14 on your calendar for our next exciting Puccini program. Plan to be thrilled by Grace Browning, harpist and Sara Gartland, soprano. Grace is the new principal harp in the Dallas Opera Orchestra, and also principal in the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra. Joining her will be soprano Sara Gartland (Lomeli) who is performing on some of the Dallas Opera concerts this season.

We haven’t had a program featuring harp before, and Grace assures me that there is a rich literature of music for harp and soprano. You won’t want to miss this! We’ll be meeting in the lovely home of Barbara Bradford, overlooking White Rock Lake. This recital will provide an exciting start for the new year. I look forward to seeing you there.

You will also want to put Jan. 31 on your calendar for the Dallas Opera’s Family Concert which will feature Sara with David Portillio. A former Vocal Competition winner, David sang for us years ago on the day he received news of being accepted in the Merola program for young singers in San Francisco. He has since gone on to enjoy a distinctive career in major opera companies around the world. Many of us have seen him in major roles with the FWO and he recently made his debut at the Met.
