Barbara Hill Moore, professor of music at SMU.

Invitations have been sent for our February 18 Puccini Society program;  hosted by Enika and Richard Schulze, the program will feature SMU students of Barbara Hill-Moore. Many of our members will remember programs featuring Barbara’s students in the past, and they are always outstanding.

Barbara Hill Moore has had many prominent students who have gone on to establish fine careers; most notably Linda and Larry Claycomb’s daughter, Laura.  Barbara will bring an ensemble of singers that promise a varied program of voice types and repertory.  I hope you’ll make your calendars now and plan to attend.

Volunteers to contribute to our reception are always welcome!  Please contact Patsy Brooks: [email protected]

About the Metropolitan Opera Broadcasts on WRR-FM

We also have a small bit of news to share concerning the Metropolitan Opera Broadcasts:  I met with Mary Dibbern and Steve Kornajcik, President of Friends of WRR to discuss what response the community might have that would possibly help reinstate these beloved Saturday afternoon broadcasts.  We are in the discussion and planning stage now, and hope to come up with a solution that might have some promise.  Sponsorship seems to be the issue, and one idea being discussed would involve community support for funding.  Perhaps if many people in the listening area each pledged a modest amount toward the cost, the station would realize the very broad support these broadcasts have enjoyed.  There is nothing concrete in place yet, however.

Meanwhile, if you have not voiced your opinion to WRR about their decision to discontinue these broadcasts, I hope you will do so. Contact George Landis at [email protected]. Mr Landis is the station manager.  You may also contact the Cultural Affairs office to encourage reconsideration: [email protected]

I’ll look forward to seeing you at our next program!
