Jennifer Youngs stepped in at the last moment to present our December 5th program at the beautiful home of Linda and Tom Smith. Ms. Youngs is a very fine young soprano, and we all enjoyed her program of arias and art songs very much. She has a warm yet thrilling voice which filled the marvelous acoustics of the spacious living room in the Smith’s home magnificently. The program included two songs by Richard Strauss, two of Samuel Barber’s Hermit Songs, and a set of six songs recently written for Dame Kiri te Kanawa by American composer Jake Heggie, as well as an aria from Donizetti’s opera, Lucia di Lammermoor, Regnava nel silenco, and two Puccini arias, Mi chiamano Mimi from La Boheme, and O mio babbino caro from Gianni Schicchi. The program concluded with a delicate rendition of Adolph Adam’s O Holy Night. Our thanks to Patsy Brooks for organizing our wonderful reception.
